Volume 18 Issue 1 - January 2003 THE ROOTS OF ROE VS. WADE "Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon." (2 Samuel 12:9) Welcome to January’s special edition of the Elijah Ministries newsletter. By God’s grace, we are going to explore the root system that has propagated the most insidious destruction of innocent life in the history of man, abortion. Underneath the bloodshed of our babies lurks the "inspiration" that has spawned the blatant disregard for the sacredness of life that God established for His pleasure and for our benefit. It may be obvious to most, but if there remains any ignorance, prayerfully this article will vanquish it. Without question, the wellspring from which abortion flows stems from the rejection of the Christian view of sexuality for one that embraces the pagan view of sexuality which is immoral to its core. If the tree be evil, the fruit can never be good (Matthew 7:15-20). Though there has always been sexual immorality, it has never been marketed for public consumption, nor politicized as we see in our day. Perversion marches through our streets chanting for special rights. Adultery demands our understanding, instead of our just condemnation. Fornication, as a term, no longer even exists in our collective vocabulary. Daily our senses are bombarded with sexual images, all competing to fulfill the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). What would make us blush and offend our consciences a few years ago has now become mainstream with very little objection, even from the Church of Jesus Christ. There can be no doubt that the sexual drive within man unrestrained by the government of God has proven to be a disaster beyond comprehension. The casualties of the sexual revolution continue to mount. Rape, incest, homosexuality, abortion, STD’S, and the breakdown of the family have reached epidemic proportions. America, undeterred by these staggering realities continues to use sex to sell, to further its political agenda, entertain the masses, and to weal sex as a weapon of unprecedented might. Through abortion, it is clear America is willing to kill for sex. Through AIDS, it is revealed that America is willing to die for sex. Through pornography, America stands ready to destroy its families and moral integrity for sex. Sex dominates this society and its preoccupation has enlarged Hell’s mouth to swallow our nation whole. As sad a commentary as that is, sadder still, is the fact, that many reject the Christian faith based solely upon their demand for complete sexual "liberation." Aldous Huxley, a British novelist, who wrote Brave New World (1932) was the grandson of "Darwin’s Bulldog," T. H. Huxley. He was also the brother of the leading atheistic evolutionist Sir Julian Huxley. Aldous died the same day as Christian apologist C.S. Lewis and the assassination of JFK (Nov. 22, 1963). Listen to his remarks on why he rejects Theism for evolution, "I had motive for not wanting the world to have meaning; consequently assumed that it had none, and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning in the world is not concerned exclusively with a problem of metaphysics, he is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to do, or why his friends should not seize political power and govern in the way that they find most advantageous to themselves...For myself, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political." Notice that the main reason some of the intelligentsia embrace evolution and reject creationism has nothing to do with scientific fact. It is based on a moral/ethical judgment or lack thereof. In essence, to believe in God, creationism, and the Bible grants meaning to life and thus places righteous boundaries upon the lusts, appetites, and the desires of man. The philosophy of meaninglessness, on the other hand, removes the boundaries and therefore anything goes. Man as a covenant breaker and ethical rebel simply performs moral and intellectual gymnastics to deny deep down inside what he knows to be true. There is a God and He is holy and we are thus accountable. There are many different forms pagan sexuality with its horrific fruit manifests itself. Let us take a brief look at the teaching of Islam. Here is a religion, so called, "peaceful" that promotes future rewards for strict obedience to its tenets in purely sexual terms. The contrast to the teachings of Jesus is stark. According to the Son of God, in paradise, the saved will no longer relate to each other sexually. We will not marry in heaven nor be given in marriage, but will become like the angels of God (Luke 20:34-38). Islam rejects the teachings of the Lord and promotes heaven as one long sexual frenzy for the champions of Allah. Islam teaches that in their paradise even the lowliest Muslim man (sorry ladies, no eternal pleasure for you) will enjoy seventy two black-eyed, youthful, virgin girls (houris) especially created for his sexual enjoyment. Their doctrine of the Millenium is also quite fanciful. The moment of the Muslim man’s sexual pleasure will be prolonged to a thousand years and his faculty of sexual enjoyment will increase a thousand fold. Many of the terrorists who kill themselves and others for the cause of Jihad are young men with raging hormones who truly believe that when they awake from their dastardly deeds, they will enter an eternal orgy under the blessing of Allah. Count on a religion like Islam to turn heaven into the fulfillment of that which keeps them from it. Contrast their sensual view of heaven with the Christian view of righteousness, holiness, and purity as the eternal resting place for God’s covenant people. Surely, ideas have consequences and a belief system will lead us somewhere. It was Sigmund Freud, Psychoanalysis by trade and secular Jew, who probably was the most instrumental in changing Western civilization sexually. His influence moved us from the Victorian mindset that was greatly bolstered by orthodox Christianity to the sexual revolution of today. According to Freud, the sexual urge, the sexual instinct called the libido is everything. It is the prime determiner, the prime mover, and the underlying reason that everything exists. One succeeds or fails depending on his cooperation or opposition to the forces of libido that rage within one’s life. Thus man is reduced to a ball of sexual energy that needs to be liberated in order to be healthy. It is this doctrine of sexual determination that has taught the West that life is either significant or worthless depending upon its sexual promise. This view is false and a lie that has left a wake of devastation. Before Freud, those in bondage to sexual deviancy needed professional help. After Freud, those who are not sexual deviants need help. This is the mentality that has benefited the homosexual agenda. With the wave of a psychiatric pen, a large percentage of the American population are now suffering from a deep, dark, deviant fear called homophobia. Thus the majority of Americans are now abnormal, while those who flaunt their perversion are as normal as Mom’s apple pie. It is this very philosophy that is working to legitimize pedophilia in our midst. Thanks to Freud, we laugh today at our Puritan heritage that treated sexual matters privately. We feel sorry for the young men and women that were chaste and kept their virginity till marriage. We think it unfortunate that previous American generations missed out on the sexual explosion. We call them prudes and mock that they didn’t even want to give an appearance of evil and desired to possess their bodies in sanctification and honor (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). Freud, along with Kinsey, gave America "scientific" justification for its perversion, immorality, and decadence. America has become an open-hearth furnace of insatiable sexual activity. As a result, fearful days have come upon us. The fire that God intended to burn within the furnace of married love has now begun to be swept along by the wind of lust across our dry and defenseless landscape. One wonders how long it will burn? And one wonders how we can be so gross and yet so stupid at the same time? It is in the Feminist movement where sex has become a weapon. It is aimed to destroy the Christian covenant of marriage. According to feminist Robin Morgan, "We can’t destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage." Sheila Cronin declares, "Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women’s movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage." Others in the feminist movement liken marriage to prostitution or even rape. Listen to Andrea Dworkin’s claim, "Marriage as an institution developed from rape as a practice. Rape, originally defined as abduction, became marriage by capture. Marriage meant the taking was to extend in time, to be not only use of, but possession of, or ownership." The feminist movement has recognized that marriage and the children marriage produces are an absolute hindrance to their plans of "liberation" and equality. That is why marriage, the nuclear family, and children, if need be, have to be destroyed in order for their plans to succeed. Feminism is the rebel women’s religion and abortion has become their sacrament. Pro-lifers have often used the terminology of Satanic sacrifice and sacrament in order to describe the despicable act of killing innocent babies via abortion. Comments such as Joe Scheidler's: "Today, as innocents are sacrificed on the altar of 'choice,'" are frequently used to show the eerie similarity between the traditional Satanic practice of sacrificing innocent children and abortion. Strangely abortionists themselves have referred to abortion as a "sacrament." In an interview, Patricia Baird-Windle an outspoken abortion proponent and owner of 3 abortuaries, said she considers "abortion to be a major blessing, and to be a sacrament in the hands of women." "At the very crucible of the sacrament of abortion work," said Baird-Windle, "is that some women have an abortion out of love for the baby, [some] out of love for the children they already have and are having a hard time feeding. They love what they are getting from their education and they know they can't stop it." Father Frank Pavone from Priest’s for Life weighs in on abortion as a sacrament with his review of a book of the same name. "The Sacrament of Abortion is the title of a book written by Ginette Paris and published in 1992. In this short book, the author claims that abortion is a sacred act, a sacrifice to Artemis (known to the Romans as Diana). Artemis is both a protector of wild animals and a hunter who kills them with deadly aim. How can these contradictory roles be found in the same female deity? The view proposed in this book is that a mother properly cares for life only if she possesses full power over life and death. Death is sometimes preferable. The one who can provide death, in order that one may escape an unfriendly life, is really loving the one who is being killed. Abortion, then, is seen as ‘an expression of maternal responsibility and not a failure of maternal love’ (p.8). ‘Artemis stands for the refusal to give life if the gift is not pure and untainted….As Artemis might kill a wounded animal rather than allow it to limp along miserably, so a mother wishes to spare the child a painful destiny’ (p. 55). Artemis, of course, is the same goddess whose worshippers felt so threatened by Paul's proclamation of the Gospel in Ephesus, where a riot nearly broke out and a vast crowd shouted for two hours, ‘Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!’ (Acts 19:34). The worshippers of Artemis today should likewise feel that their beliefs are threatened, because the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ is that He alone has authority over life and death. Neither the mother, nor the father, nor the state, nor the individual herself, can claim absolute dominion over life. ‘Nobody lives as his own master, and nobody dies as his own master. While we live, we are responsible to the Lord, and when we die, we die as His servants. Both in life and death, we are the Lord's’ (Rom. 14:7-8). The fact that some defend abortion as a sacred act should alert us to the depth of the spiritual warfare that is going on. Abortion has never been merely or even primarily a political issue. It is a false religion. When pro-life Christians, for example, pray in front of an abortion mill, it is not simply a matter of pro-life people opposing false medicine. It is the true Church in conflict with a false Church. One former clinic security guard, after being converted, admitted why he was angry at pro-life sidewalk counselors: ‘You were coming to protest in front of our church. That clinic was where we conducted our worship.’ May all believers, and their clergy, take renewed strength to speak out against abortion. Not only is doing so consistent with the proclamation of the Gospel; it is the proclamation of the Gospel." America has adopted the policy of King David when it comes to the sin and crime of abortion. King David committed adultery with Bathsheba. King David plotted and executed the murder of Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, to vainly try and cover his sexual sin. The Bible tells us that when kings should be going out to battle, King David lagged behind and his family paid an awful price (2 Samuel 11:1-5). One wonders if the sexual scandal that plagues the Church today is not directly related to the Church’s refusal to fight and end abortion. Many pastors, Christian leaders, and men of God are very passive and silent when it comes to America using abortion to vainly cover their sins of fornication and adultery. Are they now being turned over to its clutches because they refuse to fight against it? King David would give a hearty Amen! As we approach the 30th anniversary with America’s covenant with death, Roe vs. Wade, it is extremely important that we take the axe of God’s truth to the very root of sexual immorality and the subsequent use of murder that now defiles and pollutes our land (Matthew 3:10). First off, I would challenge each individual that is reading this article to make a covenant with your eyes like Job of old (Job 31:1). One of the major ways to defeat sexual immorality is to determine by God’s power and grace to live a life of purity. We must once again return to the Lord and to acknowledge our sanctification: that we should abstain from sexual immorality and that each of us would possess our vessels in sanctification and honor (1 Thessalonians 4:3,4). If there is sin in the camp of the Lord, we cannot defeat this monster that is savaging our nation (Joshua 7:11,12). The Church must first repent and be delivered from uncleanness before we can effectively wash and cleanse our nation with the water of God’s word. Secondly, the Church in America must take a more active role in upholding God’s standards of sexuality. We must agree with God’s word and give His warning against sex offenders. Fornicators, adulterers, and homosexuals shall not inherit the kingdom of God if they habitually practice sexual sin (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Sex is like nitroglycerin. People who suffer from heart disease take nitroglycerin pills to bring healing to their ailing hearts. Sex done God’s way, one man and one women bound by the covenant of marriage for a lifetime, brings God’s healing and joy to our hearts. Sex outside the covenant of marriage is destructive, both temporal and eternal. In other words, the same nitroglycerin that can bring healing to our hearts, if mistreated, will blow us up. This is what is happening in America as she looks for love in all the wrong places. Finally, I would call upon the Christian leadership of America to rise up and call God’s people to the battlefront of this generation, which is the local abortion mill that is destroying God’s little image bearers. The praying, praising, preaching, and proclaiming Church of Jesus Christ must confront the gates of hell, knowing that under God’s blessing they will never prevail against us in Jesus’ Holy Name! The terror must end before America does! Once there, we will conduct a graveside service for this precious child at the Tomb of the Unknown Baby. Immediately following, pastors will lead us in prayer to hallow the grounds of Rachel’s Park Memorial. From there, we will hold a special church service that will nationally broadcast the vision and mission of Rachel’s Park Memorial from Church on the Rock.
